Hello Again!
As you can see from the title, the Holy Month of Ramadan is drawing near. Which means…
RAMADAN CHESS TOURNAMENT!!!
So keep practicing. It is very likely it will take place in the middle of the Holy Month.
Also I know many people gave up hope since the Sharq Tourney was cancelled.
But InshAllah this tournament will NOT be cancelled or postponed. AND EVEN MORE WILL COME AFTER!
The members of the Kuwait Chess Federation are working VERY VERY hard to get the proper backing by the government.
Allah willing, InshAllah everything will be taken care of.
Until than, be well chess-fans of Kuwait. May Allah bring us together in the beautiful sport of chess.
HELLO EVERYONE!
It’s been a long time since Kuwait has seen some real activity in the Chess-Scene.
We witnessed the cancelation of the Sharg-Tourney and it was disappointing. Yet most of us still were optimistic about the future of the “sport-of-the-mind.”
I, personally am working at something that will hopefully improve the feeling we have about chess in Kuwait. This “thing” will hopefully give us a boost in moral that we need to continue loving this sport.
Others also are working diligently as well to get the sponsorships we desperately need. So keep practicing your chess because you don’t want to lose to a person younger and weaker than you 🙂
Anyways, last years’ Ramadan Tourney was short and very sweet. We had over 50 players participate in this once-a-year tournament. They came from all over. We had players from the Kuwait, Philippines, Egypt, Syria, India, Pakistan, Jordan, Palestine, and a few others that don’t come to mind.
Since we didn’t have any activity in the past few months, I thought maybe I should re-post some of the pictures we took from last year’s Ramadan Tournament, the 3-min blitz tournament, auk chess tournament, presidents cup and also a few from the last Sharg Tourney. Hope you enjoy the pictures.

HERE IS SOMETHING NEW FOR THE KUWAIT CHESS FANS!!!
Below are clips from an interview with Bader Al Hajeri (kuwait chess champion) on KTV3. He discusses the issues that the club is facing. The interview is conducted in Arabic on the Kuwaiti Television Sport Channel 3. And there is 3 parts.
The First Video gives a quick overview of the situation. In the background, you will the taping of the Sharg Tourney of 2008!
The Second and third video is an interview with Bader Al Hajeri. He discusses in detail that trails and tribulation that the Kuwait Chess Club is going through.
Sincerly,
Khaled –The SuperGM–

P.S.
Please feel free to post your thoughts and ideas about chess and ways we could improve our situation.
Every little bit of advise would be tressure at this point 🙂
Click on the link below to see the short film. It will open your eyes to things you never knew possible.

It was a tense day for the two opponents today. I was more scared than usual. Of course, this is the finals we are talking about. Hassan seemed more confident than I was.

In fact, in both of his games he brought his queen out to Qf6 as black and Qf3 when he played white. I didn’t know how to counter it exactly. So I just played according to Chess Opening Principles. And a few moves from the opening, He was forced to sacrifice his queen for a rook! Hassan fought hard. But when he blundered another piece, even he knew it was over.

Here we are in the presenting of the prizes at the end of the games. Khaled (ME!) is on the left, Hassan is in the middle, and the Supervisor is on the right. (Look at me, I feel so proud! hehehehe!)
The grand prize was an IPOD SHUFFLE (1 gigabyte of space). The second place prize is a 5 KD gift voucher to the Virgin Megastore. If you look at the picture above, I am holding the IPOD in the bag happily 🙂 And here is a picture of the Grand Prize.

Not Many people have participated in this year’s AUK chess tournament.
But the games were all fun and enjoyable.
All the games have finished and everybody was knocked out except two people.
Khaled (THATS ME!) will be playing Hassan on Sunday MAY 3rd at 2:30 P.M.
The grand prize is an Ipod Nano!
Wish Me Luck 🙂
**^^Thanks to Navaneeth for pointing out the mis-print on the title^^**

NEW FRIENDS ARE ALWAYS WELCOMED!!!
It’s been a while since it happened. However, we all remember when Cheparinov Refused to Shake the hands of Nigel Short, twice!
If you are offered a handshake and you refuse, than you forfeit the point automatically.
Cheparinov lost the round because of this. Don’t make the same mistake.
Watch the one minute video of the incident.
And the other video is an interview with GM Nigel Short discussing the issue with Cheparinoc and the new handshake rule.
