Join Us Every Saturday at the Avenues Mall!

Good day everyone! I hope everyone is having a pleasant couple of days.

I am sure most people are upset about the postponement of the Sharg tournament.

However just because there is no tournament does not  mean you cant play and make new friends in the game of chess.

The members of the Kuwait Chess Federation meet in Caribou Cafe every Saturday at 7:00 P.M.

This week alone, we had around 10 members enjoy themselves in dozens of blitz games in the coffee shop.

Mohamed Qabazard, Nasser Maqseed, Amer Al Amer, Khalaf Al Azmi, Ibrahim Shehab, Raed Al Ahmadeih, Omran Al Moussawi, Hashem Ali, and myself were all present from around 7Pm till around 10 PM.

Other people who usually join the fun are: Kuwait Champion Bader Al Hajeri, Taher Al Khateeb, Waleed Al Awadhi, Abdulsalam Al Dakheel, Abdullah Maqseed, Ali Moussawi, and a handful of others.

So come join us this week for a couple of games and feel the joy of playing with real pieces instead of just playing online.

Just to make it clear, this is NOT a tournament… Just a couple of friends playing chess 🙂

Sharg Tournament Delayed

Hello Chess Fans of Kuwait.

I sincerly regret to inform everybody of some bad news. It saddens me to write that the Sharg tournament seemed to have been delayed. I know many were excited about it but I have not received any information about the future of the tournament and thus can’t update you with any new details.

The people involved with bringing you this tournament are in heavy negotiations as we speak.

Chessfans, please be patient a little while longer.

Sharg Tournament 2009

Hello Everyone,

I talked with Khalaf Al Azmi, the person responsible in organizing this event, and he said there is a 50-50 chance it will take place on the middle on March. So it will take place in about 3 weeks.

So be patient and I will update you as soon as I have more information.

Sincerly,

History: Sharg Tournament of 2008

HELLO CHESS FANS OF KUWAIT!

I know everybody is excited about the upcoming tournament. This is the biggest chess-tournament that Kuwait has every year. All the best players in the country play and have a good time. Last year, we had over 90 people join this tournament. Out of the 90, Mr. Yaghshi won the tournament with a 7.0 score out of 9 rounds.

The tournament is sponsored by Shiekh Dawoud Dawoud Al Sabah. The other sponsors are Mcdonald’s and Red Bull. So there will be free coffee, drinks, and red bull. Some people brought thier own drinks from Starbucks and other nearby cafe’s. Here are a few other details.

Here is the break down:

  1. The tournament is held once a year at the end of February
  2. The tournament has 9 rounds.
  3. The tournament lasts 10 days (1 break day).
  4. It is open to anyone, including titled or not titled players.
  5. The Entrance Fee = 10KD
  6. The time control is 90 Minutes + 30 seconds increment.
  7. The prize fund is around 1000KD.
  8. And the top ten players get prizes:
  • 1st place = 300KD
  • 2nd place = 200KD
  • 3rd place = 150KD
  • 4th place = 100KD
  • 5th-10th places = 50KD
